In a landmark move that promises to elevate the local radio experience, Commonwealth Broadcasting Corporation has acquired stations from Seven Mountains Media that will create a unified community broadcasting service for Glasgow and Barren County. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval by the Federal Communications Commission.
The Glasgow media products involved in the transaction include CBC’s 103.7 WHHT, US 95.7, 104 The Score, and online news site GlasgowNews1.com as well as Seven Mountains’ WCLU 1490 / 103.1, Willie 94.1 / 102.3 / 98.5, and online news site wcluradio.com.
As a part of the deal, Seven Mountains Media will take control of Commonwealth Broadcasting’s Bowling Green stations, which are Sam 100.7, 105.3 The Point, 106.3 WOVO, 95.9 The Vibe, 98.3 The Edge, and ESPN 102.7.
“Allowing Seven Mountains to super serve and focus on Bowling Green and Warren County, while we do the same for Glasgow and Barren County will be a plus for listeners and advertisers across the region,” said Chris Houchens, General Manager of Commonwealth Broadcasting. “We are excited to bring together the talents, expertise, and passion of these two groups under one roof in Glasgow. This represents a significant opportunity to elevate the local media experience with local programming and a deeper connection to our community with news and information.”
“I’m excited that both markets can now receive the laser focused attention and content that these communities deserve,” said Kristin Cantrell, CEO of Seven Mountains Media. “We are very fortunate that both Seven Mountains Media and Commonwealth Broadcasting share a common vision on how we can server our listeners and deliver results for our local businesses with the power of Radio”
With a combined team of experienced broadcasters and journalists, the CBC radio stations and websites will enhance their focus on local news, sports, events, and information keeping listeners informed and engaged. Barren County Trojan and Glasgow Scottie high school sports broadcasts will continue on the stations.
“These radio stations have had a long history of serving Barren County all the way back to 1946. We are committed to honoring and continuing that heritage,” said Todd Steenbergen, who will be the Operations Manager of the new group.
While local broadcast radio has been and will continue to be the focus, Glasgow and Barren County can trust the digital versions of the stations online as well as mobile apps, social media channels, and other interactive media content on multiple platforms.
Local businesses will now have an opportunity to support local community service radio by advertising and marketing their products on these radio stations.
While the stations will start functioning as a single company in early October, there will be a transition period with separate studios until equipment can be moved and all stations are united on the fourth floor of the Commerce Plaza building on the square in Glasgow.
