The City of Glasgow announce the promotion of Lucas Tinsley to Fire Chief of the Glasgow Fire Department at the Sept. 23 meeting of the Glasgow Common Council.

Tinsley, who has been with the department for 12 years, previously served as Battalion Chief for the past two years. His appointment follows the retirement of former Fire Chief William Rock.

Tinsley began his career with the Glasgow Fire Department in August 2012, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role. Prior to joining GFD, he served nearly five years with the Richmond Fire Department and has also been actively involved with several volunteer fire departments. His diverse background in firefighting has shaped his leadership approach and vision for the department.

“Growing up in Allen County, KY, and with a family deeply rooted in the fire service, I felt a strong desire to serve my community,” Tinsley said. “My experiences in various roles within the fire department have built a solid foundation for leading GFD. I am excited to continue our progress, ensure exceptional service to our citizens, and build a department the community can be proud of.”

Mayor Henry Royse also expressed his confidence in Tinsley’s leadership, stating, “Chief Tinsley has played a vital role in the growth and advancement of the Glasgow Fire Department. His dedication and vision make him the perfect choice to lead the department as Fire Chief. We congratulate him on his well-deserved promotion and look forward to his continued leadership.”

As Chief, Tinsley aims to focus on recruitment, retention, and maintaining a high level of community engagement.

“One of the challenges we face is recruiting and retaining qualified individuals in the fire service,” Tinsley said. “We will continue to prioritize these efforts, ensuring that GFD is equipped with the best team to serve our city.”

Tinsley also emphasized his commitment to strengthening the department’s relationship with the community.

“The bond between GFD and the citizens of Glasgow is strong, and we aim to build upon it,” Tinsley said. “We are dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of the people we serve.”

The City of Glasgow extends its heartfelt congratulations to Tinsley and looks forward to his leadership in the years to come. As previously reported Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse is set to formally administer the oath of office at the council’s next meeting on Oct. 14.
