Barren Countians will be greeted by a lengthy ballot when they go to cast their vote on Nov. 5 — provided, of course, they do not vote early at the UK Extension Office during the early no-excuse voting window from Oct. 31-Nov. 2.

According to the Barren County sample ballot released from the Kentucky Secretary of State’s office, the general election ballot featured numerous local races including races for circuit clerk, Glasgow Independent Schools, Caverna Independent and Barren County schools Board of Education as well as candidates for all three city councils/commissions.

As is evident from the sample ballot most local races either have no candidates filing to run or are going uncontested.

For Glaswegians, one of the highlights of the ballot is the race for the nine available seats on the Glasgow Common Council. There are 17 candidates running; 13 of those responded to Glasgow News 1’s survey.

Though not particularly local, one race that has generated significant buzz — as such national races always do — is the presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris (D) and former President Donald Trump (R). Robert Kennedy Jr. (I) who suspended his campaign early this year and endorsed Trump is still on the Barren County ballot.

Also, proposed Kentucky Constitutional Amendment Two, which would amend the constitution to allow the General Assembly to use public monies for private schools, has also insighted strong opinions on both sides of the debate with some arguing it provides school choice while others say it will siphon money from the already underfunded public school system.

While some races will be precinct specific, all Barren Countians will have the option to cast their vote at one of nine voting locations scattered about the county on election day. The nine Election Day polling places in Barren County are the:

– Austin Tracy Volunteer Fire Department, 2452 Austin Tracy Road, Lucas;
– Barren County High School Gymnasium, 507 Trojan Trail, Glasgow;
– Beckton Community Center, 2244 Beckton Road, Glasgow;
– Cave Area Conference Center, 502 Mammoth Cave St., Cave City;
– Glasgow Middle School, 104 Scottie Drive, Glasgow;
– Haywood Fire Department, 67 Matthews Mill Road, Glasgow;
– Hiseville Elementary School Gymnasium, 149 Cardinal Blvd., Hiseville;
– Park City Lions Club, 2025 J. Brown Road, Park City; and
– Temple Hill Elementary School Cafeteria, 8788 Tompkinsville Road, Glasgow.
