Park City Commissioner Mike Burgess was recently awarded the Level II Excellence in City Governance Award from the Kentucky League of Cities.

The Kentucky League of Cities is a nonprofit membership-based association serving more than 370 cities and municipalities across the commonwealth that, among other things, develops a legislative agenda every year, provides insurance services and offers voluntary training sessions for elected officials.

The nonprofit’s City Officials Training Center allows city officials to complete education levels by attending KLC events and submitting outside educational credit from other municipal training.

According to the League’s website, the training center has four certification levels that are based on the number of hours logged. Level Two certification requires a person to have 58 hours in approved courses and two hours of ethics.

Burgess is not the only Barren County official to receive an award from the league. Park City Mayor Larry Poteet was awarded with the Level II Excellence in City Governance award in 2021.

In 2023 Glasgow Councilman Terry Bunnell was also awarded with a Level II certification, Freddie Norris received Level I certification in 2022 as did Glasgow’s Code Enforcement Officer. In 2022 Cave City Councilmember Beverly Ford was awarded Level III and Leticia Cline received the Level I certification
