OBITUARY: Helen Frances Dowell Houk

Helen Frances Houk

Helen Frances Dowell Houk, age 96, of Horse Cave, passed away to be with her loving Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, KY. She lived in Horse Cave most of her life and was an active member of the Horse Cave Baptist Church where she contributed in many roles over many decades. She was also a part of the Gideon Women’s Auxiliary and the Homemaker’s Society for many years. She was a frequent Red Cross volunteer at the Methodist Church, and while her kids were in school, she volunteered often for the Caverna High School Band. She also assisted her husband, Amos, at the Ben Franklin store for many years and spent much of her free time knitting personalized Christmas stockings for family and friends. Above all else, she held a deep faith in the love of Jesus Christ.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Amos Christopher Houk; her parents, C.E. and Virginia Dowell; and one sister, Margaret Lois Dowell Nelson.

She is survived by two sons, Leslie Bryan Houk and his wife, Tammy Kaye Houk, and Robert Dale Houk and his wife, Marysusan Miles Houk; four grandchildren, Virginia Mae Houk Ball and her husband, Jason Robert Ball, Scott Aaron Mancuso and his wife, Aimee Boswell Mancuso, Zachary Travis Mancuso and his wife, Anna Lynette Rawls Mancuso, and Miles Christopher Houk; and four great-grandchildren, Easton Paul Mancuso, Elleanor Elaine Mancuso, Helen Margaret Ball, and Henry Amos Ball.

Visitation will be a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Winn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Winn Funeral Home on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 2 p.m. with burial to follow in the Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery.
