In just three days people will again be treated to festive cheer and the largest nighttime parade in Kentucky. The annual Glasgow Christmas Parade is Saturday, Dec. 7.

Earlier this year, in August, the parade theme was announced as “Rock N Roll Christmas” and the Glasgow Garden Club as its Grand Marshal.

Barren Inc. Program and Event Director Erin Hiles said 160 floats have signed up, — and paid the registration — which is comparable to the parade last year. She also said there is a waiting list of about 25 businesses looking to take a spot if another should drop out however, Hiles added, that this year they’ve been able to decrease the waiting list by limiting businesses to two spots.

In total there will be eight categories from small and large businesses to clubs and churches, and the entries under each category will vie for a first, second and third award. There will also be a grand marshal award, according to Hiles, who added there will be some “strong contenders.”

She also added that fire departments get one complimentary entry this year.

The parade will take the traditional route: begin at the Glasgow High School, go down Columbia Avenue, turn onto Glasgow Public Square and down South Green Street. As such Terry Flatt, public information officer with the Glasgow Police Department, released some information regarding street closures on Saturday evening.

According to the information, Scottie Drive will be closed at 1 p.m. with Columbia Avenue — from Sandwood Drive to the Veterans Outer Loop — will be closed at 5 p.m. and 30 minutes later it and all side roads will be closed. Glasgow Public Square will close at 5:30 p.m. or earlier if needed.

All roads will remain closed until the parade is completed. Clean up from the parade is scheduled to start at 9 pm.

“Please take caution and make other travel arrangements if you just travel in this area,” the release states.

Hiles said she is excited for the parade this year calling it something that everyone can enjoy.

The parade is Saturday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m.
