Matthew Flowers entered two guilty pleas in Barren County Circuit Court last week. He was indicted by a Barren County grand jury in multiple cases involving money theft.

He was initially indicted by a grand jury on Oct. 18, 2023 on two counts of theft in amounts between $10,000 and $1 million and one count of theft between $1,000 and $10,000.

In addition to the 2023 case, he had a 2024 case on charges of theft between $10,000 and $1 million. He initially had a co-defendant, Elisabeth Flowers, whose case was dismissed with prejudice. A case is dismissed with prejudice when it is permanently over and cannot be refiled.

In both cases, Matthew Flowers entered a not-guilty plea at his arraignment, according to documents in the Barren County Circuit Court clerk’s office. However, Flowers appeared in court last week with his attorney, Dennie Hardin, and accepted two guilty pleas.

Flanked by Hardin and Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Resa Gardner, Matthew Flowers affirmed his guilt on the three 2023 counts and on the one count in 2024. The plea deal waives his right to a jury trial and an appeal.

He agreed to eight years served concurrently for both cases — with the “commonwealth not opposing supervised probation for” 5 years or until the restitution is fully paid “whichever is longer” — and $20,000 in each case, or $40,000 total, paid to Lock Shield Partners in restitution as they have already rectified the amount with the companies.

His sentencing date is Jan. 27 at 10 a.m.

According to the court, Matthew Flowers owes $76,501.01 in the 2023 case and $30,083.20 in the 2024 case.
