Barren County magistrates voted during the regular fiscal court meeting Tuesday to put out a request for proposals on the Park City Amphitheater for design and architecture.
The vote comes after the amphitheater was discussed at the Fiscal Court’s Administration and Budget committee meeting the day before.
Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said the price of construction was roughly $2.5 million, though she said she hasn’t gotten an exact cost estimate. She added the cost would be recuperated by fees. The cost, she said, does not include paving the parking lot or adding seats at the amphitheater.
Byrd said the project would represent a partnership between the city and county, as Park City would own the land and maintain it but would leave the amphitheater and drive-in management to the county.
The location of the amphitheater and drive-in has been cleared of trees by Park City and is 15.28 acres along West Dixie Street, according to the Property Valuation website.
No money is involved in the county’s request for proposal with “the next big conversations” coming in January, the judge-executive said.
The discussion at the committee meeting also revolved around a Barren County resident Byrd wanted to hire as the amphitheater director. She did not disclose his name at the meeting due to occupational conflicts but she did say he runs a drive-in theater.
Committee Chair Marty Kinslow said this could function as a separate county department or one under the current parks and recreation department.
Any employees at the amphitheater and drive-in would be county employees, Byrd said.
