Beginning Jan. 1, 2025 the Peninsula day-use areas, including the boat ramp and parking area, will no longer be under the management of the U.S. Corps of Engineers, the Louisville district stated in a press release.

The Peninsula Marina will be the new manager of the day-use area.

“Leasing these select day-use areas will allow us to improve the level of service at our corps-managed recreation areas. For example, it will allow for additional cleaning, mowing, and maintenance of our managed areas,” said Mark Klimaszewski, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District Acting Operations Division Chief. “The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is unable to always give the public the level of service, or the types of recreational opportunities, that they desire, so we are trying to find ways to meet those goals through the use of public-private partnerships.”

For boating at corps-managed boat ramps, people can pay $5 per day or $40 per year. According to the release, questions regarding day-use passes need to be directed to the new management.

This announcement makes six of the 11 boat ramps around Barren River Lake non-corps managed. Louisville District’s Public Affairs Deputy Chief Abby Korfhage said the corps has been leasing property at the lake since the “mid to late 1970s.”
