The Glasgow Police Department and the Kentucky State Police offered reminders that the departments will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of January.
In Glasgow, the traffic safety checkpoints will begin on Jan. 3 and last until Jan. 31. The checkpoints will be on Columbia Avenue, West Main Street, North Jackson Highway and Happy Valley Road. Though the press release states checkpoints are not limited solely to those roads.
“During the safety checkpoints officers will be enforcing laws related to operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, licensing of motor vehicles and operators, registration and insurance violations, seat belt and child restraint violations, and motor vehicle equipment violations,” the Glasgow release states.
The Kentucky State Police Post 3 also released a “periodic reminder” of its traffic safety checkpoints in “known problematic areas.”
“The intent of a traffic safety checkpoint is to provide for a high visibility, public safety service, focusing on operator impairment, vehicular equipment deficiencies and the valid licensing of drivers. Other violations of law and/or other public safety issues that arise will be addressed,” state police states.
