Homer Samuel Strader, Jr., “Sam”, 84, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully and entered his heavenly home on January 18, 2025, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.

Sam Strader, a native of Hiseville, Kentucky, was born on October 17, 1940, on a dairy farm owned and operated by his family, Strader’s Dairy, Inc. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Doris Jean Strader, his daughter Amy Strader Long of Lexington (Linden), his son Dr. Bryan Philip Strader of Cincinnati (Angela). He was lovingly known as Daddy Sam to seven grandchildren. These include Blake Johnson (Megan), Hannah Allen (David), Ethan Long (Amelia), Caleb Long (Grace), Ellie Long, Grace Smith (Kevin), and Clay Strader. Additionally, he has five great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Homer Samuel and Anna Katherine Strader, his daughter Lisa Johnson (Bryan), and his brother David Strader.

Sam’s devotion was first to His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his family. He was passionate about ministry and served in various capacities at First Alliance Church, including elder, board member, staff member, and teacher. He also served on the Alliance Development Fund advisory board for 25 years, helping to fund numerous church buildings. For 12 years, Sam enjoyed serving as the Teaching Leader for the first men’s Bible Study Fellowship class in Lexington, teaching men God’s word weekly. In conjunction with his ministry, Sam was a CPA and Managing Partner of the Price Waterhouse Cooper’s Lexington office from 1980 to 1997. As a community leader, he served as Chairman of the Board for the Lexington Philharmonic, board member for the United Way of the Bluegrass, and member of the Lexington Rotary Club. Additionally, he was a member of the Lexington Country Club. Outside of his professional and community involvement, Sam was an avid gardener, model train enthusiast, and enjoyed playing golf and traveling. He leaves a legacy of faith and will be deeply missed by his family and community.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 24 at First Alliance Church, 2201 Old Higbee Mill Road. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 25 at the church, burial to follow at the Lexington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, send donations to Bible Study Fellowship or Christian and Missionary Alliance, Great Commission Fund.
