The deadline for auctioneering bids to conduct the sale of the Barren River District Health Department building at 318 W. Washington Street has passed, and with it a project that began nearly two years ago moves towards completion.
In 2023 the Barren County Fiscal Court purchased the old U.S. Bank building — on the southeast corner of Glasgow’s Public Square — for $1.1 million.
The goal of the purchase, as Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd has said, is to make the building a one-stop shop for all things development with planning and zoning, the Property Valuation Administration, Barrens Information Technology Systems and the Health Department under one roof.
The health department will occupy the first floor. Barren River District Health Department District Director Matt Hunt wrote in an email on Jan. 8 that it was looking like the last week of January before the department officially moved into the Barren County Development Center — the new name of the U.S. Bank Building — though no concrete date has been set.
Jan. 24 was the deadline for auctioneers to submit their qualifications and price for the upcoming sale of the department’s W. Washington Street building.
“The successful bidder will be responsible for conducting the auction, managing advertising, and providing necessary documentation for the sale of the building,” the county website states.
Bids will be opened at the next Barren County Fiscal Court Building and Property Committee meeting, which, if there are no special-called meetings, is scheduled for Feb. 18. Byrd has said several times before that she would like to see a spring auction, but currently no date has been set.
