Mark Hanks, 26, of Glasgow was arrested by the Barren County Sheriff’s Office on charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy on Saturday, Jan. 25, and arraigned Monday.

Hanks was arrested at T.J. Samson Community Hospital on Saturday, according to a uniform citation from the sheriff’s office. He was charged with sexual assault of a 7-year-old. He was arraigned Monday in Barren County District Court and had a preliminary hearing set for Feb. 3.

Deputies responded to a possible sexual assault involving a 7-year-old . According to the citation, during the interview with the Barren River Area Child Advocacy Center in Bowling Green, the juvenile said Hanks “exposed her to sexual contact” on Jan. 20 and Jan. 21.

The juvenile was able to identify Hanks as the perpetrator, according to the citation.

Before Judge Gabe Pendleton on Monday, Hanks asked if he could plead guilty. The judge told him he could not, and that he would have to talk to his attorney first. Hanks appeared in court via Zoom and had an attorney appointed to him during the arraignment.

Hanks’ bond is set at $50,000 cash.
