Jackson Arnett will be the next head coach of the Glasgow Scotties football program.
Arnett said he accepted the position Monday, Jan. 27, but wanted to wait to officially announce until he spoke to players at Boyle County, which he did Tuesday morning. The former Barren County head coach has been a co-defensive coordinator at Boyle since leaving Barren in 2021. He coached the Trojans for four seasons, including 2019 when the team was 6-5. It was the first winning season for Barren County since 2000. He compiled a 12-28 record with the Trojans.
“I’ve always had my eye on it,” Arnett said of the Glasgow job. “It’s a tradition-rich program. Glasgow has a high standard. I want to reinforce that and raise it.”
The head coach position was posted in early December. Arnett said he applied as soon as he saw it open.
Former coach Jeff Garmon retired as a teacher and coach.
“Coach Garmon was first class and ran a good program,” Arnett said. “The biggest thing I have to do is start building relationships with players and parents. We’ve got to get in the weight room and get started. I know they have already been lifting weights.”
He said the biggest things he learned at Boyle County, which has won three state titles since 2021, was to practice at a fast pace, and communication with players.
“It’s been a fun journey here. They try to do things the best they can be done,” Arnett said of Boyle. “It’s tough leaving here, but were excited to come back closer to home.”
His wife, Trista, is from Glasgow and is a Barren County graduate. He graduated from Monroe County, and played quarterback.
Arnett said he should be able to get started at Glasgow in the next couple of weeks.
The Scotties finished last season 5-6 and were bounced from the playoffs in the first round. They had only six seniors on the roster.
