The Barren County Health Center has moved to the Barren County Development Center near Glasgow Public Square.
In 2023 the county purchased the building on the southeast corner of the Square, which formerly housed a U.S. Bank, for $1.1 million with the goal of making it a “one-stop shop” for all things related to development in Barren County. The planning and zoning’s, the Property Valuation Administration’s and the Barrens Information Technology Systems’ offices are occupying the second floor of the three-story building.
The health center is located on the first floor. Barren River District Health Department Director Matt Hunt said this week is their first full week in the new building and they are excited to finally be in the new facility.
The process to auction off the old health department building is underway with the window to submit auctioneering bids having closed late last month. The bids will be opened at the next Barren County Fiscal Court Building and Property Committee meeting. Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd has said several times before that she would like to see a spring auction, but no date has been set.
