Johnson case headed to grand jury

The case involving the attempted murder of a Kentucky State Police trooper has been waived to a Barren County grand jury.

Bobby Wayne Johnson, 44, of Cave City was arrested by state police on Sunday, Feb. 2 after a brief vehicle pursuit in the area of Pace Quarry Road. The pursuit reached up to 95 mph and Johnson drove on the wrong side of the road, according to a uniform citation.

At the intersection of Salem Church Road and Old Munfordville Road, Johnson attempted, and failed, to hit a trooper putting a “stop stick” across the road, according to the citation. Instead, Johnson’s vehicle hit the trooper’s vehicle causing it “major damage.”

According to the citation, troopers Tazed Johnson multiple times while trying to apprehend him.

He was arrested and charged with 17 offenses including attempted murder of a police officer, speeding 26 mph or greater, reckless driving, fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence, driving under the influence on a suspended license (third offense), first-degree trafficking controlled substance, failure to wear seat belt, disregarding stop signs, no registration receipt, no registration plate and failure to maintain required insurance (first offense).

Johnson is lodged in the Barren County Detention Center and has a $500,000 cash bond.
