The American Red Cross is urging people to donate blood or platelets this month and is offering a gift to those who do.
According to the nonprofit’s press release, thousands of donations went uncollected last month due to “hundreds of blood drives” being canceled because of severe weather and wildfires, resulting in more than 16,000 uncollected donations.
The earliest appointment opportunity in Glasgow is scheduled for Feb. 27 at Immanuel Baptist Church, according to the American Red Cross website. There are currently 10 appointments still available from 12:30 to 4:45 p.m.
“People of a blood types — especially O negative blood — are encouraged to make and keep their donation appointments so hospitals can continue to ensure critical care for patients,” the release states.
Until Feb. 28, people who donate blood will get a $15 e-gift card to a “merchant of choice.”
