Billy Clay Hughes, age 84 of Flippin passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Shanti Niketan Hospice Home in Glasgow, KY.
Born February 5, 1941, in Monroe County, he was the son of the late Lewis and Annie Lee (Johnson) Hughes. He was the husband of Jo Ann (Rowland) Hughes who survives. They were married on December 22, 1963, at the original Indian Creek Baptist Church in Flippin, KY, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Director. He was a current member of Akersville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He loved farming and his family very much.
He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from WKU. He served on the KY Farm Bureau Young Farmers Advisory Committee in 1970. He had previously been a Monroe County Farm Bureau Director; Manager of the Tompkinsville Fertilizer Plant; Agronomist at Glasgow Fertilizer Company; and a Sales Representative for Big Rivers Agri Supply in Owensboro. He was a Charter Member of the Flippin Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Chairman of the Board for many years. He was recognized by WBKO TV as a Hometown Hero in 2016 for his service to the Flippin Volunteer Fire Department and the community.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, survivors include two children; Christopher Clay Hughes and Laura Jenkins (Adam), all of Flippin; three grandchildren, Lauren Hoskins, Gregory Wheeler and Mitchell Clay Jenkins; and six great grandchildren, Ava, Connor, Blaine and Clayton Hoskins and Raylee and Ivy Wheeler.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Friday, February 14 at Fountain Run Funeral Home with Bro. Joseph Rushing officiating. Burial will follow at Neal Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. at Fountain Run Funeral Home.
