Barren County was approved for more than three-quarters of a million dollars by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for preventative bridge repairs.

During the 8-minute fiscal court meeting, the seven county magistrates approved the agreement for $751,319 — the second highest amount awarded to Kentucky’s 120 counties — with Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd saying the money comes from the $25 million appropriated this year by the state “for preventative bridge maintenance in Kentucky.”

Byrd said the money would go towards maintenance of the bridge on Siddens Road.

“This is true preventative maintenance because the bridge is not at failure but it’s right on that cusp,” Byrd said. “We’re trying to prevent that versus having to shut it down.”

“It’s not failing. We’re trying to prevent it from getting there,” she added.

Byrd said she would send the magistrates’ approval back to Frankfort before putting the preventative repairs to bid. She said it would likely be a cabinet reimbursement.
