With the Barren County Development Center completed, the fiscal court prepares for the upcoming auction of the Howard Clinic, named after Dr. C.C. Howard, who used to run a practice out of the building.
At the most recent Building and Property meeting, the three committee members, Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd and deputy judge-executive Garland Gilliam, opened and examined bids for auctioneering services on the West Washington Street clinic. They received three bids: one from Elmore Realty and Auction, one from Mills Real Estate and Auction, and the other from Bryant Realty and Auction Co.
Bryant Realty and Auction Co.’s bid was chosen. According to the bid documents, the auction company “will pay all advertising costs and expenses” for the auction with a 4 percent buyer’s premium added to the final bid on real estate and on personal property, which, essentially, is a 4 percent charge in addition to the “hammer price.”
The bid document specifies that the auction will take place within 30-45 days of contract acceptance, which, according to Byrd was March 4. She said she is planning for an auction in April.
Gilliam said there are still some items that are in the old building and will soon be declared surplus. Byrd said the auctioneering services was approved at the Mar. 4 Barren County Fiscal Court meeting.
