Tommy D. Brooks, age 80 of Mammoth Cave, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at The Hospice House in Bowling Green. The Edmonson County native was born on October 26, 1944 to the late Abe and Sarah Rich Brooks. Tommy’s heart was first joined with Mary Ann Brooks, with whom he shared many beautiful years until her passing on June 9, 2011. In the years that followed, he found companionship with his wife, Seretta Rich, and they spent many precious moments together with their families.
Tommy proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, a time that undoubtedly shaped his character and convictions. After returning home, he and his brother took over Brooks Saw Mill, his father’s cherished business, demonstrating their commitment to family and hard work. With determination, Tommy later established his own business, skillfully operating heavy equipment.
Throughout his life, Tommy was a devoted member of Hill Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he not only led singing but also served as the moderator for many years. His legacy of service, dedication, and leadership continues to inspire those who knew him.
Besides his wife, Seretta, he leaves to honor his memory— his children, Marianna White (Jimmy) of Richardsville and Craig Brooks (Tajuana) of Mammoth Cave; a grandson, Mason J. White of Richardsville, and his siblings, Janie Bell Sanders, Johnny Brooks (Donna), Roger Brooks (Angie), Jackie Brooks (Debbie), Jake Brooks (Debbie) and Dennis Ray Brooks, along with a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was also preceded in death by his son, Kelly T. Brooks, and siblings, Fay Decker, Cecil “Smitty”, Judson and Jimmy Brooks.
The interment will be in Hill Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
