The Glasgow Water Company has opted to table their contract with the federal lobbyist group.
Finance and Customer Service manager Jeff Reed said the board had met with an individual from Statesmen Advisory and, though he couldn’t speak on their behalf, said he doesn’t think the board members are opposed to the idea. The company’s board of directors are scheduled to meet tomorrow, Mar. 13, and contract discussion does not appear on the agenda.
Based on prior reporting, the Glasgow Water Company’s contract would cost $2,000 a month.
The idea of utilizing the services of a lobbyist was first discussed at the Dec. 16 Barren County Fiscal Court Administration and Budget Committee. At that time the idea was to have one contract that featured all three parties — the Barren County and Allen County fiscal courts and Glasgow Water Company — all in one contract with Statesmen Advisory for a combined $4,500 a month.
Eventually, it was broken into three separate contracts, each of the three entities being responsible for its own payment. Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said at a Feb. 18 Barren County Fiscal Court meeting, which is also the meeting where the fiscal court unanimously approved its contract with the lobbyist firm, that Allen County had already approved its contract.
Based on previous reporting, the water company’s contract would use Statesmen Advisory’s services to lobby for a water treatment expansion at the Narrows at Barren River Lake, which would likely increase water sales to Allen County that currently purchases water.
