The movie “Guns of Redemption,” which was filmed in southern Kentucky, had a premiere last week at Marquee Cinemas in Glasgow.

“We had a packed house for that,” said MacLean Lessenberry, executive director of the Glasgow-Barren County Tourist and Convention Commission on Tuesday afternoon during the group’s regular monthly meeting. “It was really good.”

Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse asked if Glasgow’s movie theatre ever promotes the fact that some of these movies are filmed in southern Kentucky, and Lessenberry said she didn’t think they have done that.

“They could probably promote themselves a lot,” Royse said. “It would be a way to sell a bunch of tickets.”

Lessenberry said since the “Guns of Redemption” premiere event was well attended, the movie theatre most likely benefitted from the extra traffic.

“It was a Monday night. It should have been a good night in sales for them,” Lessenberry said, adding that while tickets were free, the movie theatre sold concessions during the event.

The movie “Gunslingers” featuring Nicolas Cage, which was also filmed in southern Kentucky, is set to premiere April 11. Lessenberry said they are hoping to host a premiere for this movie as well, but those details are still being discussed.

“Those are always last-minute,” Lessenberry said. “It has to go through a lot of approvals for us to be able to have it here, but we’re hoping to do something here.”
