North Jackson Elementary wins region Governor’s Cup

North Jackson Elementary’s academic team recently won the Region 8 Governor’s Cup competition. Several Barren County and Glasgow students also captured group and individual awards, according to official event results on the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition website.

In Quick Recall, North Jackson took top honors and South Green Elementary finished runner-up.

Hiseville Elementary captured first place in Future Problem Solving with South Green taking second.

The following students won their respective individual competitions: Chase Thornbury (South Green, Mathematics); Grayson Barrett (North Jackson, Science); Davis Cook (North Jackson, Social Studies); Malcom Wessling (North Jackson, Language Arts); Lera Robertson (Eastern, Arts and Humanities); and Claire Woodie (South Green, Composition).

Barren County students also received the following awards: Bley Meredith (Red Cross, tied for second in Math and fourth in Social Studies); Ethan Ross (North Jackson, tied for second in Math); Malcom Wessling (North Jackson, tied for second in Math); Latcher Harbison (Red Cross, second in Language Arts and third in Composition); Henry Huddleston (North Jackson, second, Social Studies); Emily Jiang (North Jackson, second, Arts and Humanities); Lydia Perkins (Eastern, second in Composition and fourth in Language Arts); Charlotte Edwards (North Jackson, third, Arts and Humanities); Aaliyah Huff (North Jackson, fourth, Composition); and Lincoln Elmore (Temple Hill, tied for fifth in Language Arts).

Glasgow students also received the following awards: Devika Nair (South Green, second in Science); Trenton Catron (Highland, third, Science); Tucker Lobue (South Green, third, Social Studies); Harper Gaffney (South Green, fourth, Arts and Humanities); Adele Shirley (South Green, tied for fifth in Arts and Humanities); Oliver Chaney (South Green, fifth, Science); and Camden Fields (South Green, fifth in Math).

Overall final standings:
1. North Jackson – 42
2. South Green – 31.5
3. Red Cross – 12
4. Eastern – 11
5. Hiseville – 8
6. Joe Harrison Carter – 5
7. Highland – 4
7. Edmonson County – 4
7. Gamaliel – 4
10. Tompkinsville – 2
