Why are flags at half staff today?

Governor Andy Beshear ordered that all flags in “state office buildings” be lowered from sunrise to sunset on Friday, March 14 “in honor of a soldier who died while serving on active duty in Germany.”

U.S. Army Major Scott Swindell, who was from Clarksville, Tennessee, died on Monday, Feb. 17, in Landstuhl, Germany, while on assignment with the 16th Sustainment Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command. Previously, Swindell served “with the 101st Airborne Division as well as the 1st Calvary Division in Fort Cavazos, Texas,” according to his McReynolds Nave and Larson obituary.

Beshear encourages all individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
