The Barren County Building and Property committee voted to approve J and K Construction’s bid for $6,550 to “remove a wall and add a few doors” on the second floor of the Barren County Government Center on the Glasgow Public Square.

The work was initially discussed during a previous committee meeting, where it was said that the second floor would be used by the commonwealth’s attorney and his staff since the Property Valuation Administration and the Barren River Drug Task Force are moving to the second and third floor, respectively, of the Barren County Development Center.

Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said they had received verbal approval from Frankfort but no official contract yet. Deputy Judge-Executive Garland Gilliam said the funds to rent the second floor had to go through the finance committee, but the office “was already asking when they could move in.”

The rent for the second floor would be approximately $4,000 a month, which is roughly equal to $1 a square foot.
