The Caverna Board of Education met for a brief session Thursday, May 8.

A new banking agreement with German American Bank and the first reading of the district’s proposed budget for the next fiscal year were among the agenda items.

The most discussion stemmed from the decision to switch financial institutions due to a lack of local support from the district’s current provider. The bank already handles Caverna’s general spending, but Superintendent Amanda Abell said the change was needed to address ongoing issues with the current credit card provider.

“We’re having issues with our current credit cards,” said Caverna Superintendent Amanda Abell. “They’re not local, and the big months — like March, for example, when the board travels — we’ll get people at the hotel emailing the client because there are so many charges, even though we pay the bill every month.”

Abell added that efforts to resolve the issue with the current provider have been unsuccessful. The board unanimously agreed to move to German American Bank and open five credit cards for the district and its schools.

The rest of the meeting moved quickly, with board members approving the first reading of the proposed 2025–26 budget, and authorizing the graduation of more than 40 students this school year.

The board entered closed session to discuss possible pending litigation. No action was taken following the session.

Before adjourning, Chairwoman Jennifer Briggs highlighted an upcoming fundraiser to benefit the Heacock family, whose late son was a student at Caverna. The event will take place at the Glasgow National Guard Armory beginning at noon and will include entertainment, food, and an auction. All proceeds will go to the Heacock family.

The board is scheduled to meet again on June 12.
