The Barren County Trojanettes’ win over Franklin-Simpson featured big hits, big plays, rain, and 19 total runs scored.
Barren fell behind 2-0 through two innings before they manufactured three runs in the top of the third.
Lily Elmore drew a walk to lead off the inning. She moved to second on a single by Katie Elmore. Gracie Myatt moved the runners with a sacrifice to first. Norah Shirley drew a walk to load the bases before Briley Aidala drove in Lily Elmore with a fielder’s choice. Katie Elmore was thrown out at third.
Lizzie Smith followed and drove in two runs with a single. Shirley and Kyra Moore, running for Aidala, each scored to give Barren a 3-2 lead.
The Lady Wildcats tied the game at 3 in the bottom of the third.
The Trojanettes took the lead for good in the top of the fourth.
With one out Katie Elmore nailed a single. Myatt followed with a triple that drove in Elmore. Shirley drove in Myatt with a sacrifice fly, and Barren led 5-3.
Aidala drew a walk, then Smith singled to left field. Kyra Moore, who was again running for Aidala, scored on an error in left field and Smith reached second. Shea Bogue stepped to the plate, hit a single to left field, and Smith scored on the throw to the infield.
The Lady Wildcats cut the lead to 7-5 in the bottom of the fourth, but Barren popped off three more runs in the top of the fifth as rain began to fall at WKU’s softball field.
Franklin-Simpson scored twice more in the bottom of the fifth, and Barren led 10-7.
Both teams scored once more in the game to set the final scored of 11-8.
Myatt led the Trojanettes at the plate with three hits and three runs batted in. Smith, Bogue, and Katie Elmore each had two hits, while Lily Elmore finished with one.
Bogue pitched the distance, allowed 12 hits and struck out four.
