Movies oftentimes provide people with entertainment and leisure, a time to relax and unwind, but the filming of a movie can have major economic benefits for the communities hosting the filming crews. Such was the case with a movie shot in and around Barren County.
In early June, it was announced that there would be filming in the county, though at the time no specifics could be released. With the movie finished filming in the area, Southern Kentucky Film Commission President MacLean Lessenberry said it was an action film starring Aaron Eckhart, who might be better known as Harvey Dent or Two Face from “The Dark Knight.”
The movie is called “Scorpion” and also features Kaitlyn and Alexis Kemp.
Lessenberry and Southern Kentucky Film Commission Vice President Jennifer McNett said the movie was shot in locations throughout Barren County including George Js, the Cave Area Conference Center, T.J. Samson Community Hospital, Jesse James Riding Stables in Cave City and Caverna High School.
Both discussed the local impact this filming has had on the county. McNett commented that most all of the props, wardrobe, labor and appliances were from Barren County. Though the cast and crew filmed for 15 non-consecutive days, McNett estimated they were here for about 6 weeks.
They said a local screening of Scorpion would likely be planned but were unsure of exactly when at this point.
This story will be updated at a later time.
