Taxes, a grant application and bridge work on Matthews Mill Road are a few of the items on the Aug. 19 Barren County Fiscal Court agenda.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in the court chambers on the third floor of the Barren County Government Center. As is usual for this time of the year — being relatively at the beginning of the fiscal year, which began on July 1 — the county magistrates will discuss the 2025-26 tax rate.
The compensating rate of 12.6 cents per $100 of assessed value on real estate and 15.3 cents per $100 of valuation of “tangible personal property” is planned to be adopted, according to the agenda and a provided copy of ordinance 696.
A contract with Intech Contracting is also set to be approved. The contract is in the amount of $477,075, which recieved approval during the Aug. 5 fiscal court meeting, and will include joint sealing, and blasting and painting. Earlier this year, the court received $439,316 from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet as part of its bridge improvement program. Magistrate Tim Coomer, who chairs the transportation committee, said at the time that this construction will also close the road for 45 days.
The magistrates will also approve to apply for 2026 litter abatement grant funding.
