The Glasgow Lady Scotties continue to check off boxes for the 2025 soccer season. They won a district game for the first time since 2019, and on Tuesday, they beat Barren County for the first time since Sept. 21, 2019.
“It definitely wasn’t our best as a team, and they’re much better than they have been in past years and I think our girls just weren’t expecting that,” said Trojanettes head coach Laynie Smith following the 3-1 victory by the Lady Scotties.
“It’s a great accomplishment for us this year,” said Glasgow head coach Scott Zettlemoyer. “[We] figured out opportunities where we could thrive, and the girls played good passes … and luckily we capitalized on all of our opportunities.”
The Lady Scotties opened the scoring with 26:56 left in the first half. Madeline Neuhaus score on a penalty kick after the Trojanettes were whistled for hand ball in the box.
Noelle Grieshop pushed the Glasgow lead to 2-0 with 6:05 left in the first half.
“Sometimes the ball bounces their way, and sometimes it bounces our’s, but tonight it wasn’t bouncing our way in any part of the field,” Smith said after the game.
Barren did get a bounce its way midway through the second half when Shelby Byrd scored her team’s only goal.
Zettlemoyer said his players did a good job of not letting that goal snowball on them.
“They showed a lot of will power,” he said. “The game could have easily gone back into Barren’s favor .. but our girls kept the pace … kept their heads and we were able to just keep going forward.”
Ava England added an insurance goal for the Lady Scotties with 8:35 left in the game.
Smith said her players need to learn the game was closer than it seemed, and they have to be ready to compete against every opponent.
“We had plenty of opportunities on goal and we did not finish,” she said.
Ladeja Driver posted 14 saves in goal for Glasgow.
The win pushes the Lady Scotties to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the 15th District. The Trojanettes fall to 2-4-1 and 1-1. Glasgow hosts Warren East on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in another district contest, while Barren hosts Monroe County at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
