The Glasgow Community Band will perform its annual free concert on the square at 3 p.m. this Sunday in front of city hall. Traffic may be impacted due to portions of Glasgow’s downtown square being closed for the event.

This concert was originally scheduled for last June, but it was postponed due to a heat advisory at the time.

“The weather was not nice to us,” Director Robbie Fudge told WCLU Radio with a laugh earlier this week. “It was so hot and we had to cancel.”

Fudge added that they were able to coordinate with state and local officials to close off Glasgow’s downtown square for the concert.

Sunday’s weather forecast is sunny with a high of 76 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Louisville, and Fudge said performing in cooler temperatures should make the concert a great experience for all.

“This should be perfect,” he said. “Should be really enjoyable and really, really nice — almost like a fall day.”

The community band director said they are “pretty excited” about this particular performance.

“We were ready to go with this back in June,” Fudge said. “We took a little bit of time off and then we’ve come back together for the last three weeks.”

Fudge said those who attend the concert can plan on taking a musical trip around the globe.

“You don’t need a passport,” he said. “We’re going to take you around the world with music from around the world.”

The director said the musicians will “travel overseas” to places like Britain, Ireland, Scotland, Japan, Spain and “behind the Iron Curtain.”

“Then we’re gonna come back home,” Fudge said. “And do something pretty special for where we are.”
