Park City Mayor Larry Poteet has announced his resignation from office, effective Thursday, Sept. 18, at 5 p.m. The announcement was confirmed by both Poteet and Commissioner Donna Scavo.

In a brief statement of resignation, Poteet wrote, “I, Larry Poteet, have stepped down from the mayor of Park City effective this date 9-18-2025 at 5:00 p.m.”

He later clarified in a text message that his decision was motivated by his upcoming campaign for jailer. “I just stepped down where I can spend my time on the jailer race. I have told Mike [Burgess] and them that I would help them in any way. I just need more time for this race.”

The Park City Commission has scheduled a special-called meeting for this evening at 5 p.m. to discuss how the city will move forward. Commissioner Mike Burgess, the city’s mayor pro temp, will assume the role of acting mayor until further action is taken.
