More economic development may be on the horizon for Glasgow and Barren County.
During the Sept. 25 Industry Impact Awards Banquet, Barren County Economic Authority President and Chief Executive Officer Maureen Carpenter said she had been to Frankfort, Kentucky, supporting two “projects seeking to locate in Barren County” and mentioned the Egypt-based manufacturer Union Coating and Chemical Industries, which was announced earlier that day by the governor’s office.
Carpenter later confirmed the Union facility would be locating in the 50,000 square foot speculative building in the South Cooper Industrial Park, which is off U.S. 68/Ky. 80 west of Glasgow.
The other “projects seeking to locate in Barren County” that was mentioned was Tate Access Floors, Inc. On the special-called Glasgow City Council meeting agenda for Monday, Sept. 29, there is a first reading of an ordinance that permits the “rebate or retention by…Tate Access Floors of one percent of the one and three-fourths percent occupational license fee on certain wages paid to employees in the city of Glasgow.”
Tate Access Floors has a state incentive approval listed on the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development online database. The final approval date was Sept. 25, 2025 for a projected project cost of $33.2 million. The projected number of jobs is 400, according to the state cabinet website.
When asked about Tate Floors after the banquet, Carpenter said she couldn’t say anything more.
“At this time we can’t announce anything official on it and there’s still a lot of things we’ve got to do in the process of approval,” Carpenter said. “We’ll share more information when we can.”
Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said it would be located in the former R.R. Donnelley building. As of right now, the building is still listed for sale at $27 million. The Donnelley property is located in the Glasgow city limits off Donnelley Drive.
Scottie Ellis, communications director with the governor’s office, sent an email to Glasgow News 1 on the afternoon of Sept. 26 that said “Team Kentucky is working hard to win this project to secure another great investment for the Glasgow community.”
“Gov. Beshear and his administration are committed to bringing good-paying jobs to Kentuckians across the state,” Ellis wrote in the email. “Yesterday, Tate Floors, Inc. received preliminary approval from KEDFA, an important step in this highly competitive process.”
Tate Access Floors specializes in raised floor, structural ceilings, and data center containment, according to its company website.
