Monday’s special meeting of the Glasgow Common Council essentially consists of two action items – one piece of old business and one new item.
The business brought forward from the previous meeting is the second reading of the ordinance establishing the 2025 property-tax rates for the city. The first reading of the ordinance was approved in a 6-3 vote at a special meeting Sept. 15. The proposed rate is 0.165, or 16.5 cents, per $100 of assessed property value for personal property and for real property.
The new item is the first reading of an ordinance that would provide tax incentives for two businesses that are looking to locate here: Union Coating & Chemical Industries and Tate Access Floors Inc., on which Glasgow News 1 has separately reported. Each company would receive a discounted rate on the occupational license fee on certain wages paid to their employees, provided they meet the criteria of the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers on Floor 2 of the Luska J. Twyman Municipal Building, 126 E. Public Square.
