Bluegrass Ingredients is the first tenant of Barren County’s South Cooper Industrial Park.
Barren County Economic Authority President and Chief Executive Officer Maureen Carpenter announced that the company would occupy the 100,000 square foot speculative building during her remarks at the Industry Impact Awards banquet.
“This sale is supporting a long-time local industry to meet their growing demands,” Carpenter said during her remarks on Sept. 25. “Bluegrass Ingredients will be the first tenant in the…park, investing millions of dollars and creating up to 20 new jobs.”
The purchasing price for the property, and the speculative building, was $7 million, according to the real estate purchase option agreement.
“This project is an investment in our business as well as in the State of Kentucky.” Hoyt Huffman, CEO of Bluegrass Ingredients said. “Working with the Barren County Economic Authority to bring this expansion to life is a true example of Kentucky business partnership at its best.”
On Jan. 21, the Authority’s board of directors authorized Carpenter “to sign the necessary paperwork for the sale.” Seven days after that Bluegrass Ingredients entered into a real estate purchase option agreement that gave the Delaware corporation “the exclusive and irrevocable option to purchase the property.”
Bluegrass Ingredients, known prior to 2020 as Bluegrass Dairy, was founded in 1995 when Billy Joe Williams and his wife Debbie purchased a dairy factory in Glasgow and began “experimenting and innovating with new powder formulations through its spray drying processes.” The current Glasgow facility is located at 1117 Cleveland Ave.
