Drivers traveling along Happy Valley Road between Cave City and Glasgow may soon see construction equipment, construction crews and possible lane closures in the area as the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 gears up to begin an improvement project.
The project is aimed at “enhancing safety and efficiency along a 9-mile section” of Happy Valley Road — also known as Ky. 90 — according to a district press release. It will add alternating passing lanes and new turn lanes at different points along the corridor and will include drainage improvements, guardrail work, shoulder improvements, passing lane extensions and vegetation trimming.
Construction is set to begin on Oct. 6 for work on a turning lane from Happy Valley Road to Harry King Road, the release stated.
“Motorists should expect lane closures and construction crews working from near Flint Knob Road to Gibbons Road,” according to the release.
Limits of the project are between Sanders Street in Cave City and the Veterans Outer Loop in Glasgow, according to the press release. Construction will be done in phases.
The entire corridor project is expected to be completed in early fall of 2026. Scotty’s Contracting and Stone was awarded the contract in July.
“The project represents a more than $6.5 million investment in infrastructure improvements in Barren County on Ky. 90,” the press release stated.
