Esters Farm Catering and Café will host a grand opening Thursday, Oct. 9, at its new location at 4900 Park City-Bon Ayr Road.
Originally located in Bon Ayr, the café operated out of a former country store owned by chef Gabe Esters’ parents. Bought in 2017, the restaurant operated for around five years before being sold in 2022, according to co-owner Susan Esters, Gabe’s wife.
“This has been several years in the making,” she said.
The project began after a city employee approached the couple about setting up shop in Park City. “The more you have, the better,” she said. “Even if someone doesn’t stop to see us, they see us.” She went on to say that the diversity of attractions a city provides is, in itself, an attraction to tourism. “We don’t want 50 restaurants here, that wouldn’t be sustainable,” she said. “But four or five, I think that’d be great.”
The new location will employ around 25 staff and will be able to seat around 100 guests between its patio and interior, according to Susan.
The planned menu will feature a medley of “comfort food” dishes, with meatloaf, pot roast, and chicken and dumplings. “We will have more of a set menu,” she explained, while also hinting at specials throughout the week.
Susan reminisced on how the business began when her husband still worked for Mammoth Cave National Park. To supplement the couple’s income, Gabe began making sourdough bread to be sold at the Bounty of the Barrens Farmers Market.
“One of the first [vendors],” she noted. The couple’s flavor profile grew in tandem with demand, as after fulfilling a contract with T.J. Samson Community Hospital, the community’s calls for catering catalyzed the creation of the café.
Despite its growth, Esters maintained that their food would still incorporate fresh and local items. “Gabe’s whole commitment is, ‘make it yourself and buy fresh ingredients, nothing’s frozen,’” she said.
The grand opening is scheduled for Oct. 9 starting at 10:30 a.m.
