A woman who worked as a substitute teacher has been charged with allegedly arranging to meet with a minor for sex.
Krystal Sims, 30, of Cave City, is charged with unlawfully using electronic communication to solicit, procure, or promote a child for sexual activity or other prohibited acts. She was arrested Oct. 2 after an interview with a Barren County Sheriff’s Deputy. She was released from the Barren County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond on Monday, Oct. 6.
Deputy Adam Bow said he received information that Sims had communicated with a male juvenile for the purpose of meeting to have sex, according to a uniform citation.
A student told the deputy that he met Sims when she was a substitute teacher in his class. The student added Sims later accepted a friend request he sent her on Snapchat, the citation stated. The student told deputies that on Aug. 22, he and Sims began talking about meeting in Cave City to have sex.
In a recorded call made on the same date, a female can be heard asking the juvenile if he is coming to meet her. The student added that the call later transitioned to a video call, in which Sims’ exposed breast was visible as she was in the shower, the citation stated.
Sims told deputies Oct. 2 that while substitute teaching, several boys in the class attempted to add her on social media, but she did not accept any of their requests. She admitted to being the female in the recorded call, but said that she agreed to meet the student so that he could apologize for the way he acted in class, the citation stated.
Sims said she did not meet with the juvenile student and nothing physical happened between them.
Sims has an initial court appearance on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
