Caverna Independent Schools will hold its regular Board of Education meeting on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 5 p.m. at the Caverna Central Office in Cave City. The meeting will include routine business items as well as several matters that could impact district operations, student services, and safety resources.
Following public comment and reports from Superintendent Amanda Abell, the board will review a series of consent items such as financial reports, travel requests, grants and school fundraisers. The board will also consider donations over $1,000, including a $2,500 contribution to the football program.
One of the more notable action items on the agenda is a proposal to amend adult meal prices in order to remain compliant with federal requirements. If approved, the cost of adult lunches would increase to $5.05 and breakfast to $3.25 beginning November 1.
Board members are also expected to consider the first reading of a new grant policy, which would establish guidelines for how grant funds are pursued and administered throughout the district. In addition, the board will vote on whether to accept matching funds through the Kentucky Education Technology Funding Program, a statewide initiative that supports technology upgrades in schools.
Construction-related items appear on the agenda as well, including approval of BG2 and BG3 planning documents. These are standard forms required by the Kentucky Department of Education for school construction projects.
The meeting will conclude with a discussion regarding the possibility of hiring a second school resource officer or school law enforcement officer, a move that would expand security staffing within the district.
