A Hart County court case involving a former Caverna High School boys’ basketball coach is heading to mediation, according to court records.
Terrence Miles worked with the Caverna Independent School District as a special education teacher and boys’ high school basketball coach before resigning from both positions on May 2 as a result of a video posted on social media. He was arrested on the same day by Horse Cave police.
Miles is currently charged with second- and fourth-degree assault, second-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree official misconduct and failure to report child dependency/neglect/abuse (first offense).
Miles’ case has mediation scheduled for Dec. 11 because “counsel believes mediation would be helpful” in resolving the case, according to his court records signed by both the Commonwealth’s Attorney Brooke Talley and Defense Attorney David Cross.
Retired judge Anne Haynie was assigned to the mediation, court records state.
A status review is scheduled in the Hart County Circuit Courtroom for Dec. 16 at 10:30 a.m.
The Kentucky Courts website states that mediation “is an informal process in which a neutral third person…facilitates the resolution of a dispute between two or more parties.”
