Spanish-speaking residents of Barren County can now complete the petition/motion for an Order of Protection in their native language, according to the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office.
This makes Barren County one of three counties in Kentucky that offers a “user-friendly online questionnaire” that allows victims of domestic violence to complete the necessary petition for a protective order.
“This resource provides a more private option for petitioners navigating a stressful and sensitive process, and it offers increased accessibility by allowing them to complete the form at their own pace and in their own language,” a press release from the office stated. “The tool [also] increases efficiency by saving the clerk’s office and the victim significant time because it eliminates the need to complete the petition via consecutive interpreting through Language Line — a process that can take well over an hour.”
“We are pleased to be able to provide this service to our Spanish-speaking citizens of Barren County who may need the service,” the release added.
