Barren County Schools Board of Education members discussed the potential sale of property located near Red Cross Elementary during Thurday night’s regular meeting at the district’s central office.
The property would be sold to the state of Kentucky and be used by the transportation cabinet for construction to improve Ky. 1297 from Donnelly Drive to U.S. 31-E — and Donnelly Drive from Ky. 1297 to U.S. 68, according to the meeting’s agenda and read by Board Chair Shelly Groce during the meeting.
“The district was approached by the Commonwealth of Kentucky on behalf of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Department of Highway,” Finance Director Joe Murley said during his report to the board. “It’s potentially selling approximately .17 acres of property at Red Cross.”
Murley then reminded the board that the district has “a bond on that with the energy project at Red Cross, but the amount is so small here, that it’s really immaterial to that bond,” adding that the board would have to go into a finance meeting to approve a few items.
After approving a resolution authorizing discussion of the transaction, the board — officially referred to as the District Finance Corporation for this meeting — entered into closed session to discuss the sale, but took no action once returning to the open meeting.
