Barren County’s board of education recently recognized two educators and a student from Hiseville Elementary during its October meeting. Tamara Murrey was named the Certified Employee of the Month; Heather Studd was awarded the Classified Employee of the Month; and Isabella Dandurand was recognized as the Student of the Month.

Hiseville Principal Jonathan DeVore spoke highly about all three individuals during the meeting.

Murrey has had several roles throughout her career at Hiseville, from teaching multiple subjects and grade levels to now leading teachers as the Read to Achieve coach.

“Murrey has continually been a teacher who sharpens her skills to continue to master her craft,” DeVore said. “She’s become a leader in our school, making judgments that promote the learning of all students and staff.

“Murrey is constantly reflecting on her practice — even in her 31-plus years of experience — to continue to develop our school as one of the best.”

DeVore said Murrey represents the true Profile of Trojan, “as she can truly meet every characteristic of a Trojan.”

After Murrey received a plaque and round of applause, the principal pivoted to recognizing Studd for her teamwork.

“When you think about teamwork, you think about people who work together — being open-minded, not being selfish,” DeVore said. “Respecting everyone. Being adaptable and valuing others’ work.

“Studd has been an invaluable member of our Hiseville Cardinal family.”

DeVore said that Studd is “considered a teammate to all, always looking at the bigger picture of educating our students.”

After recognizing both Hiseville educators, DeVore then transitioned to honoring the Student of the Month for her “accountability.”

“Our students at Hiseville are always growing and learning, but some of them show up in ways far beyond their age,” DeVore said. “They come in daily with a positive attitude and prioritize to reach their individual goals in education. They meet those goals and take accountability for their actions by thinking through every interaction.

“These are the students that will be the strongest and most successful leaders for tomorrow.”

DeVore said Dandurand “exhibits all of these qualities.”
