In its second meeting this week, Park City Commissioners voted to swear in a new city clerk following the resignation of former clerk Sue Whobrey, who resigned Tuesday evening after serving as the city’s clerk for several years.

Longtime administrative employee Charlotte Vasquez agreed to come out of retirement to fill the role. Vasquez told commissioners she brings over a decade of clerical experience, having worked in Park City’s administration from 2019 until her retirement in 2023.

“It’s easier than training someone new,” Vasquez said. “I’m just excited to be back.”

Commissioners welcomed Vasquez warmly, with Mayor Donna Scavo noting that her familiarity with the city’s operations would help maintain continuity.

“We’re grateful she was willing to step in,” Scavo said. “She already knows the ropes.”

A city clerk manages official documentation, and serves as a public contact for many administrative needs. Vasquez said her first priorities will be supporting upcoming end-of-year reporting.

In the interest of transparency, Scavo made special note that Vasquez’s pay would begin at $15 an hour and increase to $17 after one year, the rate she earned prior to retirement. With that agreed upon, and after confirming she had not engaged in a duel, Vasquez was sworn in as Park City’s new clerk.

As part of the change, commissioners also voted to add Vasquez’s name to city accounts.
