Caverna Independent Schools showed improvement during the 2024-25 academic year.

On Nov. 19 the Kentucky Department of education released its accountability and assessment data which showed that in overall performance Caverna Middle School went up a rating from the orange rating of last year to a yellow rating in 2024-25. Caverna High School increased two ratings. In 2023-24 the high school was in the red ranking, which signifies the lowest performance, and in 2024-25 the school received a yellow rating.

Caverna Elementary School maintained its orange overall performance rating.

“We were extremely happy with the growth we saw in our schools across the district, especially from our middle and high school,” said Whitney Paul, district assessment coordinator. “These results are a testament to the hard work of our students, teachers, and staff, and they show that our focus on instructional improvement is yielding real, measurable results for the community.”

Caverna High School

The high school received a green, which is the second highest performance rating, in reading and mathematics, according to the school report card. Forty percent of high school students scored either a proficiency or distinguished in reading, compared with the 22 percent reported during the 2023-24 year, the report card stated. Likewise, approximately 35 percent of Caverna High School students received a proficiency or distinguished rating in 2024-25, compared to 16 percent last year.

In Science, Social Studies and combined writing the high school had a yellow overall rating with 11 percent earning a proficiency or distinguished score in science, 23 percent in social studies, and 27 percent in combined writing.

The high school also received a green rating for its graduation rate, which increased significantly, according to the report card that stated 98.1 percent of the students graduated in four years in 2024-25, compared to 88.5 percent in the year prior. For postsecondary readiness, the high school ranked red and declined significantly, the card stated.

Graduation rates and postsecondary readiness ratings are only available for high schools.

Three percent more middle schoolers earned a proficiency or distinguished in reading compared to the 2023-24 academic year — going from 32 to 35 percent, according to the report card. In mathematics, 42 percent received those scores, whereas only 21 percent of students did in the 2023-24 year.

Science and combined writing did not have school-specific scores, however the middle school maintained its 18 percent proficiency or distinguished total between this year and the previous one, the report card stated.

Caverna Elementary School

The elementary school received a yellow overall rating in reading and mathematics. Twenty-six percent of students obtained a proficiency or distinguished rating in reading and 22 percent of students earning similar ratings in mathematics. Both reading and mathematics percentages increased in 2024-25, the school report card stated.

Similarly, the school got a yellow overall rating in science, social studies, and combined writing. In combined writing, 9 percent of students scored in the upper two categories and 20 percent of students did the same in science. Social studies had a decrease in proficiency and distinguished ratings, according to the card, going from 18 percent in 2023-24 to 6 percent in 2024-25.
