An Elizabethtown man has been arrested in connection with a Valentine’s Day assault in Horse Cave.
Brandon L. Wease, 43, was arrested Saturday after he allegedly fled in a silver Buick Regal that belonged to a man assaulted at a home off Vial Street in Horse Cave, according to court records filed in Hart County. He was arraigned in Hart County District Court on Monday morning, Feb. 16.
Kentucky State Police were called to the scene of a potential assault. There state police found that a vehicle belonging to the man who had been assaulted was missing, and that the suspect was believed to be driving the Buick.
The Regal was found at Love’s Truck Stop near Interstate 65 in Horse Cave. State police attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle at L&N Turnpike and Ky. 218. The vehicle sped away at 65 miles per hour in a 55 speed zone, according to a uniform citation filed in the court record.
The pursuit continued on Flint Ridge Road and state police saw “[Wease] throw what appeared to be a bag, similar to a back pack, out of the passenger side window while on” Flint Ridge Road. “Detectives later located this bag and found a handgun inside the bag.”
State police were able to execute a “legal intervention” near the 4000 block of Flint Ridge. The Buick traveled off the right side of the roadway and through a fence line, according to the citation. After the car stopped in a cow pasture, Wease left it and fled toward a tree line. He was caught and detained.
As of Monday morning, Wease has numerous charges, but none related to the assault. He is charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first-degree fleeing or evading police, both on foot and by vehicle, and first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer. He also has numerous moving violations.
