Sidewalks around the current Barren County Courthouse will soon be replaced, according to Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd.
During the Feb. 17 Barren County Fiscal Court meeting, the magistrates approved a memorandum of understanding with the Administrative Office of the Courts, which stated that it will reimburse the county up to $159,065 for sidewalk replacements. Byrd said this reimbursement and replacement project will only involve the sidewalks, and concrete, surrounding the courthouse. It does not include sidewalks around the square’s perimeter, which are under the responsibility of Glasgow.
“We’re so excited that the Administrative Office of the Courts has given us $159,000 to repair all the concrete on the inner part of the Square,” Byrd said. “I don’t know if anybody has walked around there recently, but it needs it. We’re very excited to get that money and get the project started in April.”
Byrd said Grey Rock Construction has been selected to handle the project.
County officials said the sidewalk replacement project around the Barren County Courthouse is expected to begin in April and last about six weeks. Residents and visitors should watch for future announcements.
Officials said the project will improve safety around the courthouse.
The courthouse square is a central part of downtown Glasgow, and the work will likely affect pedestrian access and traffic patterns during construction. County residents and visitors may see temporary closures or detours as crews work around the courthouse.
