Two Barren County community members were honored Thursday morning during the chamber’s Achievement in Business Awards news conference.
The Magnolia Award, which “recognizes a female leader who demonstrates excellence in the community,” was presented to Mallie Boston with the Boys & Girls Club of Glasgow-Barren County, who “embodies the spirit of the award” through her extensive community involvement, according to Barren Inc., The Barren County Chamber of Commerce.
“At first glance, this recipient may seem younger than those who’ve received this honor before, but it doesn’t take long to realize that her impact far exceeds her years,” said CheyAnne Fant, chairperson of Barren Inc. “She embodies a lifetime of service through her dedication, her vision and her unwavering commitment to others. She doesn’t wait for change, she creates [it].”
Boston said she didn’t “have any words” as she attended this event expecting someone else to receive this award. She was surprised as club board members, employees and friends lined the wall of the room in support of her.
The 2026 Small Business Person of the Year, sponsored by The Peoples Bank, was awarded to Zac Ross with Ross Wealth Advisory. The award recognizes a local business owner who demonstrates excellence in entrepreneurship and in operating a successful small business, according to a Barren Inc. press release.
“Zac exemplifies this award through his dedication to his clients, his profession, and his community,” the release states. “Beyond his business, he is actively involved in the community, supporting local initiatives and investing in the success of others. His integrity, work ethic, and passion for helping others achieve long-term stability make Zac a truly deserving recipient of the 2026 Small Business Person of the Year Award.”

Boston and Ross will be honored at the Achievement in Business Awards Luncheon on May 7. They will serve as the event’s keynote speakers as Barren Inc. kicks off Small Business Appreciation Month and recognizes the contributions of other local business and community leaders through the Administrative Professional of the Year, Farmer of the Year, and Small Business of the Year awards.
“Mallie and Zac represent the very best of Barren County,” said Maureen Carpenter, President and CEO of Barren Inc. “Their leadership, passion, and commitment to serving others continue to make a meaningful impact on our community. Through their work, they are not only improving lives today but also helping shape a stronger future for Barren County.”
