Cave City is adding another reason for travelers to pull off Interstate 65, with eight new superchargers now in the works at the welcome center.

The superchargers are currently being installed at 821 Mammoth Cave St. and are expected to be completed by May, according to Cave City Tourism Director Jennifer McNett.

The stations, part of Tesla’s charging network, can bring a vehicle from about 20- to 80-percent in roughly 25 minutes, McNett said.

“We are very excited to offer a fast charging option for tourists and locals,” she said. “These are Tesla chargers but can be used to charge any type of electric vehicle. The goal is to see those who are waiting to visit local businesses and restaurants.”

Since the installation of pickleball courts in 2024, the welcome center has seen an uptick in visitors traveling to Mammoth Cave and along I-65.

Free pickleball equipment will be available for those who want to play while they wait, and that option is expected to be listed on the Tesla app, according to McNett.

As part of an agreement between the tourism office and Tesla, construction and installation will be fully covered at no cost to the city.
